Obstacle Course Dice Roll
Looking for a fun and easy way to get your kids moving while secretly building important skills? This OT-inspired Obstacle Course Dice Roll turns movement into a game — no fancy equipment needed! With just a die and a few simple actions, your child will be working on gross motor coordination, body awareness, motor planning, and sensory regulation... all while having a blast.
Whether indoors on a rainy day or outside in the sunshine, this activity is a go-to favorite for therapists and families alike. Ready to roll? See the blog for the details and directions!
What You Need:
A large die (or make your own from a tissue box!)
A list of gross motor tasks (see below)
Tape or cones to mark stations (optional)
How to Play:
Write 6 different gross motor activities, one for each number on the die. Example:
1 = Crab walk across the room
2 = Bear crawl over a pillow
3 = Jump 5 times on a line
4 = Spin in a circle and stop like a statue
5 = Balance on one foot for 5 seconds
6 = Frog jump 3 times
Roll the die and complete the matching movement.
For an extra challenge, create a course where the child has to do 3 rolls in a row to complete a movement path!
OT extras:
Use weighted items like a small backpack for proprioceptive input
Play music to support auditory processing and rhythm
Add a memory challenge ("Remember all 3 movements before starting!") for executive functioning practice
For regulation, insert a calming station (e.g.,wall push-ups, deep breaths, yoga pose)
Add timers: Race against the clock for motivation!
Add writing practice: Have the child write or draw the sequence before completing it.
Use it as a pre-homework movement break or post-school decompression time
