Individual Occupational Therapy Sessions

Play-based, one-on-one sessions designed to help children build the skills they need for everyday life — at home, at school, and in the community. We pair evidence-informed practice with a warm, family-centered approach so every child feels safe, motivated, and confident as they grow.

What Is Individual Therapy?

During individual sessions, your child works directly with a licensed pediatric occupational therapist in a one‑to‑one, play‑based environment. Each session feels like play while targeting specific goals through activities such as sensory-motor circuits, obstacle courses, crafts, games, or self-care routines.

Let's Get Started

We begin by supporting the nervous system through regulation and sensory input so that learning can take root. Caregivers are invited to observe, collaborate, and learn practical strategies for home and school carryover. Every session is guided by your child’s evaluation and personalized treatment plan to ensure consistent, meaningful progress.

Who It’s For

Individual occupational therapy sessions are designed for infants, toddlers, school-aged children, and teens who may need extra support to build foundational skills for everyday life.

Therapy can benefit children who:

  • Struggle with self-regulation, attention, or transitions

  • Experience sensory sensitivities or have difficulty processing sensory input (movement, touch, sound, or visual stimuli)

  • Need help developing fine motor skills such as grasp, cutting, handwriting, or tool use

  • Show delays in gross motor coordination, balance, or strength

  • Have challenges with self-care and independence, including dressing, feeding, or toileting

  • Benefit from improving social-emotional awareness and flexible thinking

Our individualized sessions help children gain confidence, body awareness, and coping strategies—promoting greater independence and participation at home, school, and in the community.

What to Expect

Personalized Sessions for Every Child

Each individual occupational therapy session at Creating Connections lasts about 50 minutes and is uniquely tailored to your child’s needs and interests. Sessions are offered at both of our clinic locations, as well as in the home, community settings (like parks, rock climbing gyms, or swimming pools), or private school environments when appropriate.

Play, Purpose, and Progress

Every session is a balance of play, purpose, and progress. Your child will engage in fun, movement-based, and sensory-rich activities designed to support regulation, coordination, and skill development. We always begin with sensory and emotional regulation so your child feels calm and ready to learn. Activities may include obstacle courses, fine motor games, crafts, handwriting, yoga, or real-life routines such as dressing or feeding practice.

Family Partnership and Communication

Parents are an essential part of the process. After each session, families receive feedback and practical carryover ideas to use at home and school. You’ll have ongoing opportunities to meet individually with your therapist outside of sessions to discuss progress, adjust goals, and problem-solve together.

Ongoing Growth and Goal Review

We formally review goals every six months (or sooner if needed) to celebrate progress and update the treatment plan. Our goal is to make every session meaningful, connected, and aligned with your child’s growth—while keeping therapy engaging and fun.
