Witch Hat Ring Toss & Movement Challenge

Here is a simple, Halloween-themed activity that blends active play with occupational therapy goals like coordination, balance, and self-regulation.

With just a few household items, you can transform your living room into a spooky skills circuit where every ring toss leads to a playful movement challenge. It's the perfect mix of silly and skill-building — and a great way to burn energy, practice turn-taking, and sneak in some core strengthening between candy corn breaks!

What You’ll Need:

  • A cone or party hat decorated as a witch hat (or use an upside-down funnel or rolled construction paper)

  • Plastic rings, glow bracelets, or homemade rings (paper plates with center cut out)

  • Painter’s tape to mark standing lines

  • Optional: movement cards or dice

How to Play:

  1. Set the witch hat on the floor or low table.

  2. Have your child stand at a marked line and toss the rings onto the hat.

  3. Each successful toss earns a movement challenge:

    • 10 jumping jacks

    • Walk like a zombie

    • Fly like a witch (arm flaps, tiptoe run)

    • Crawl like a black cat

    • Balance on one foot and count to 10

    • Touch your toes then reach for the sky

Variations:

  • Make it a relay race: toss, then run to a pumpkin!

  • Use a die or spinner to assign movement

  • Play in the dark with glow-in-the-dark rings

  • Add a social-emotional twist: “If you miss, take a deep breath and try again!”
