Colorful Red Light Green Light
Looking for a fun way to practice impulse control and self-regulation? Add some extra colors to the classic Red Light, Green Light game!
Check out the blog for details.
Each color gets its own movement. The child has to listen, remember the rule, and control their body before responding.
Try These Colors
🟢 GREEN – GO!
Run, walk, or move toward the finish line.
🟡 YELLOW – SLOW DOWN!
Move in slow motion like a turtle.
🔴 RED – FREEZE!
Stop your body and freeze like a statue.
🔵 BLUE – JUMP!
Do 3 jumping jacks or jump like a frog.
🟣 PURPLE – SPIN!
Do one slow spin, then get ready for the next color.
🟠 ORANGE – ANIMAL WALK!
Move like a bear, crab, frog, or another animal.
🩷 PINK – SILLY MOVE!
Do a silly dance, wiggle, or funny movement.
Make It More Challenging
Once your child learns the colors, start changing the order or giving commands more quickly. You can also call out a color without showing a card, requiring your child to remember what each color means.
For an extra challenge, try giving a “trick” command—say a color but don't move yourself. Your child needs to listen carefully and control the impulse to copy you.
OT Tip: Start with just 2–3 colors and add more as your child becomes successful. The goal isn't to get every color right—the goal is to practice stopping, thinking, and choosing how to respond!
At Creating Connections OT, we’re here to help your child thrive—emotionally, physically, and socially. If this post resonated with you and you're wondering what the next step looks like, our New Client Page has everything you need. From what to expect in your first session to how we support your child’s unique goals, it’s all just a click away.
